Trying to bring down our true role models

Why is it so important to some people to feel that they have to bring down our true role models? There are so few of them that are genuine, innocent and pure.  It seems that there is always someone out there looking to take a hack at them.

Is it jealousy?

Did anyone read “The Trouble With Tim Tebow” in the Wall Street Journal on Friday?

Tim Tebow was the first college football player to both rush and pass for 20 touchdowns in a season and was the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. As a sophomore in the 2007 season, he became the Gators' starting quarterback and broke the Southeastern Conference records for both rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns accounted for in a single season. In addition to the Heisman Trophy, his performance in 2007 also earned him the Maxwell Award as the nation's top football player, the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback, and the James E. Sullivan Award as the nation's most outstanding amateur athlete in any sport.

Last year after the Florida Gators lost a close game to the Ole’ Miss Rebels after failing to convert on a 4th and 1 with the game on the line the kid publicly pledged his heart and soul to the program he plays for and single handedly took responsibility for bringing the Gators a National Championship from that point on.

He then went on to deliver upon his pledge.

Tebow donates his time with his family on Christian missionaries in the Philippines and other nations; he’s a great student, a model citizen by all accounts and the best amateur football player in the nation (for a few years now). If there is anyone in world that should be a role model to others (children and adults alike) it’s Tim Tebow.

Shame on the Wall Street Journal for publishing anything negative about this kid at all. – Brian Pierce
