Brandon Marshall: Rebel with a Cause?

Brandon Marshall’s remarkable success on the football field has consistently been overshadowed by his off-the-field issues. His legal woes have been well-documented: he’s assaulted law enforcement officers, he’s driven under the influence of alcohol, and he allegedly beats his fiancée. “Innocent-until-proven-guilty” is all well and good, but if you honestly believe that Marshall is anything more than a scumbag, you might be nuttier than he is.

And now, the NFLs biggest nincompoop (now that Pacman Jones signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers) has decided he wants out of Denver, and the world has had enough. Football fans everywhere criticize the young wideout, calling him everything from a bad teammate to a locker-room cancer. But what the general public needs to do is sit down, take a deep breath, and ask themselves… If YOU were a 25-year old Wide Receiver, would you wanna catch passes from Kyle Orton?

At 25-years old, Marshall is already one of the leagues elite. So, too, is the 26-year old former Bronco, Jay Cutler. The phrase “Cutler-to-Marshall” could have been synonymous with “Aikman-to-Irvin” or “Young-to-Rice.” Instead, he’s got to catch passes from KYLE ORTON!?! You can’t give your kid a Cadillac, let him ride it around for a year, then tell him you’ve traded it in for a bumper car. That’s exactly what Denver’s Rookie Head Coach Josh McDaniels did when he isolated Cutler and forced Broncos management to move him. He traded his Cadillac in for a bumper car, and Marshall’s career is the most affected.

He’s not a good guy. And he’s not acting like a good teammate. But he doesn’t want to play for Denver, and the truth is, you really can’t blame him. - Eric Marmon

  1. I think most teams over-value draft picks value. You have to pay large, guaranteed contracts to unproven players that may or may not reach their potential. Brandon Marshall has already proven his talent on the field, and he is certainly more valuable than any of the wr's you could find in the 1st round of the draft.
